The forty rules of love

“Love is the water of life” says Rumi through his poems. Before I read about him, I came across his name many times. He is indeed a great poet. His quotes are very powerful. But it is after reading “The forty rules of love” I fell in love with Shams, Rumi’s love. Shams was the companion of Rumi. Shams enlightened Rumi with love. Their bond is beautifully described in this book. This book is written by Elif Shafak. The protagonist of the book is neither Shams nor Rumi but it was Ella, a forty year old woman. She was seeking love or rather love was seeking her. In the forty rules of love, Ella reads the book written by Aziz and falls in love with a person whom she had never seen in her entire life and who was thousands of miles away from her. At some point of time I felt Ella is Rumi loving her Shams that is Aziz. Shams is the one character I would always cherish in my life. Shams has shown Rumi what love, surrender and Nafs is all about. He was a Sufi. He had bold ideology. If I ever encounter The Shams of my life, I will never let him go!!!
