“Science is about Knowing, Engineering is about Doing”.
These are the famous words by Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, he is the fist engineer in India and has been instrumental in laying the foundation of modern India. September 15th is his birth anniversary and is celebrated in India, Sri Lanka and Tanzania as an Engineers day.
He was civil Engineer and was part of several prolific projects across the country.
- Chief Engineer of Krishna Raja Saara Dam
- Chief Engineer of the flood protection system for city of Hyderabad
- Designed Water Supply and drainage project for Aden (city in Yemen)
- Sea Erosion Project for port city of Visakhapatnam
- Mysore Soap factor, Iron and Steel Plant and couple of other initiatives for Government of Mysore state
- Road projects in
- Technical advice on construction of Water reservoirs across the country
The list goes on and on.
