Hair treatment following granny’s traditional method

Shaikakai also called as “Flower for Hair“, is one of the most popular herbal product.

Do you wonder why our grandparents have beautiful hair, and at that time there were no costly hair oils, shampoos or other hair care products. But, they still had strong, thick and lesser grey hairs. Well the answer lies in the natural or herbal products they used.

Shikakai, also known as Senegalia rugata, is a spiny, climbing shrub and is typically found in warm places of South India.

Shikakai fruit pods are dried in the sun and ground into a fine powder. The powder is used for hair and medical treatements.

Some of the benefits of using Shikakai are:

  1. It helps in reducing hair fall, resulting in stronger and thicker hair
  2. It provides require nourishment to head scalp without removing the essential oil.
  3. Regular use of Shikakai helps with your dandruff problem

Shikakai can be used in multiple ways

Used in Natural way as shampoo

    • Take dry Shikakai pods and keep it overnight in water. Heat up slightly.
    • Apply it as a shampoo and keep it for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with water.
    • Typically Shikakai is used in combination with Reetha and Amla.

Shikakai with Oil

  • Mix Shikakai powder with regular hair oil like coconut or Argan.
  • Leave it for days.
  • Apply it to the scalp gently and keep it overnight and wash it with herbal shampoo.

Hair Pack

  • Mix Shikakai and Amla powder in equal amount and mix it with warm water.
  • Apply the mixture to your head and wash it after 15-30 minutes
  • For dry skin, you can mix it with curd and apply it to the head.
  • For oily skin, mix with green gram powder and use it as a shampoo.
