The Holy month of Ramzan is just a day away, and Muslims around the world are eagerly waiting and preparing for it. You might have seen crowded market with people trying to stock groceries, preparing snacks in advance, buying new clothes and cleaning the houses. All these so they focus and wisely use their time in Ramzan indulging in spiritual activities and doing good deeds.
Ramzan is the month of spirituality, where Muslims are engaged in prayers and doing good acts connecting with God and restraining themselves from worldly desires. Ramzan fasting is for 29 – 30 days and followed by Eid ul Fitr.
During Ramzan Muslims abstain from eating & drinking from dawn till sunset. The aim of Ramzan is not to keep one hungry, but to focus more on their faith and avoid being distracted by worldly activities. It teaches us to be compassion and empathy for the ones who are poor and don’t have enough to eat.
Fasting is one of the five pillars for Islam, and it is mandatory for all Muslims who are healthy and mature. There are some exceptions like sick people, travelers, kids, pregnant & breastfeeding women and few others.
Here are some of the do’s
- This is the month of spirituality, spend time praying and reading Quran.
- Be humble in your attitude, nice with your neighbors, children and elders. This is something we should be doing always, and this act is very much liked by God.
- Zakat is one of the pillar of Islam. It is mandatory to pay at least 2.5% of your savings & wealth with needy and poor people. Be generous when helping people in need.
- Extend the Iftar (breaking of fast) to friends and extended family members. Share the food with needy and poor people.
Here are some of the dont’s
- No consumption of tobacco or smoking during fasting.
- Fasting doesn’t mean overeating during Iftar or non fasting hours. Don’t eat oily or unhealthy food.
- Fasting should not be an excuse to over sleep or be lazy.
- Abstain from sexual activities during fasting. Avoid adult and lewd talks during the month.
- Do not get involved in immoral activities like back biting, keeping grudge on others, talking bad about others and physically or mentally hurt others.
- Do not get involve in unnecessary discussions
- Do not spend time watching TV or peeping into mobile phones, unless there are some important tasks to do.
- Do not stay awake in night and sleep during the day.
- Avoid being angry or using abusive language
- Do not show up your wealth to show others down
