Tanjore (Thanjavur) painting is a classical South Indian painting style. It is named after Thanjavur town from Tamil Nadu. It dates back to 1600 AD during the era of Gupta empire.
Thanjavur paintings are typically used to depict the Hindu Gods and Goddesses, with it’s flamboyant and rich colors, glittering with Gold, Silver, glass beads and precious stones. These paintings are typically done on wood flanks.It is famous for its unique way of creating a 3d effect on it’s painting.
