This is one of my favorite dish, easy to make and light on the stomach.
You can have it as a soup, or you can eat it with Roti, Paratha or Rice.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 Kg Chicken
- 2 tea spoon salt (or as per taste)
- 2 tea spoon ground black pepper
- 1 tea spoon Chaat Masala (or chicken masala)
- 2 tea spoon garam masala (or chicken masala)
- 2 tea spoon ginger garlic paste
- 2 Onions
- 4 green chillies
- 1/2 Lemon
- 1-2 cups yogurt
- 10 Cashew Nuts
- 2 tea spoon dry kasturi Methi
- 3-4 table spoon Oil
- 4 Cloves, 1 Cinnamon stick, 2 cardamons (choti Elaichi) and 2 Bay leafs.
Preparation:
Step 1) Marinate the Chicken
- Clean the chicken properly and drain out the water.
- Add 2 tea spoon ginger garlic paste
- 1 tea spoon black pepper
- 1-2 tea spoon Chaat Masala
- Squeeze in 1/2 – 1 Lemon
- Marinate it well and keep it in fridge for 15-30 minutes
- Take the marinated chicken out of the Refrigerator
- Add 1 – 1&1/2 cup yogurt and mix it well
- Keep the chicken back in refrigerator for another 30 minutes
Step 2) Preparing the Gravy Masala
- Heat oil (1 table spoon) in a skillet.
- Cut 2 onions and add to the oil. Saute it till it become soft, transparent and slight brown color
- Add 4 Green Chillis
- Add 10 Cashews
- Once the onion is fried, switch off the gas and let it cool.
- Blend the mixture in a blender and make a fine paste. Add little water so it is easy to take out of the blender.
Step 3) Cooking the chicken
- Heat oil (2 table spoon) in a skillet on a medium flame
- Add the dry spices to oil (Bay leaves, cloves, cinnamon stick and cardamons)
- Add the onion mixture to the oil and fry it on medium flame. Keep stirring at regular interval
- Add 1 spoon of salt (As per your taste)
- Once Oil starts separating and turns slight brown, Add the marinated chicken to the skillet
- Turn the flame to high and fry the Chicken for 5-8 minutes
- Add 2 tea spoon Garam Masala (Chicken Masala) and mix well
- Reduce the flame to medium and fry the chicken for another 10 minutes
- Once oil starts separating and chicken is fried well, Add 1-2 glass of water depending on the thickness of gravy you are looking for
- Cover the chicken lid and let it simmer (cook on low-medium flame) for 15-20 minutes
- Add 1 tea spoon of black pepper
- Crush 2 tea spoon dry Kasturi methi
- Let the chicken simmer for another 5 minutes and then switch off the gas
Step 4) Serving the Chicken
- Garnish the chicken with coriander leaves (optional)
- Serve the chatpata namkeen chicken with Roti or hot rice
- Alternatively you can also eat this Chicken with Dosa
- Add some Salad (Onions, lemon, Salt, Jeera powder) on the side to enhance the taste.
As you notice it is pretty easy to make in a short time. The more time you keep the chicken marinated, it would taste much better.
Please try this Chicken at home, and let me know how it tastes. Please provide feedback on the article, and share the version you like the most.
